Community Involvement

Community Resources Day

The inception of the Community Resource Day began in May 2008 sponsored by the Housing Resource office. The focus of the event is to connect applicants, residents and neighbors to the various resources available in and near their communities. This event is also an opportunity for vendors to showcase their products and services. The Community Resources Day assists all in maintaining a safe and healthy life style. Everyone is given the opportunity to ask questions and receive valuable information regarding everyday issues. Members of the community are able to take part in blood pressure screening, gather information on: employment opportunities, housing, homeownership, banking, and education. Several agencies have been instrumental in making the event a success, such as: Primerica, New York Life, Wells Fargo, Limestone College, Southern Wesleyan University, Neighborhood Housing, The Buffalo Soldiers of North Charleston, Low Country Aids, Charleston Center, My Sister’s House, and The Veteran’s Administration.

A message from our President/Chief Executive Officer:

The Housing Authority of the City of Charleston was born of action on December 18, 1934 by a vote of the Charleston City Council. However, the actual permission for such a "creation" came via statute in the South Carolina General Assembly in March of 1934.

We have come a long way in our society, our City and our personal relationships. Nevertheless, the need for Public housing still exists today. We have so much more to do before we can truly say, the job is done.
