Mr. Donald J. Cameron is the President & CEO of the Charleston Housing Authority in Charleston, South Carolina. He has held this position since 1980 and prior to that was the Assistant Executive Director for five years.

In his tenure at the helm of the Authority, Mr. Cameron has overseen the addition of 2,331 homes to the city’s inventory of affordable housing and over $140,000,000.00 of capital reinvested in the community.

Mr. Cameron is the recipient of numerous honors and awards in the fields of architecture, historic preservation and innovation. Recognition has also come from his peers through professional organizations at the state, regional and national level.

In May 2011, Mr. Cameron was honored by the Charleston Hebrew Benevolence Society with its Humanitarian Award. Also, the U.S. Green Building Council, South Carolina Chapter, presented its Annual Leadership award to Mr. Cameron.

Mr. Cameron’s professional credentials also include: Past President of the South Carolina Directors’ Association, Past President of the Carolinas Council of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, Past President of the Southeastern Regional Council of NAHRO, Senior Vice President of National NAHRO, and President of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.

In October 2008, Mr. Cameron was recognized by his peers as an inductee into the first class of NAHRO Fellows for lifetime achievement.

Don and his wife, Fay, have five adult children and ten grandchildren.
