Pete Sherman is a seasoned professional with a strong background in business, finance, and real estate development. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989, followed by an MBA from George Washington University.

His career began in commercial real estate development and management in Washington, D.C., before transitioning to lead his family’s specialty chemical business from 1995 to 2004. During this time, he also obtained his general contractor’s license.

In 2005, Pete joined the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, where he steadily advanced in leadership roles. He earned his CPA license in 2008, was promoted to Finance Director and CFO in 2010, and in 2021, took on the role of Director of Development, overseeing key initiatives to enhance housing opportunities in the community.

Aris Hanchard Ferguson is the General Counsel for the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston. There, she oversees and coordinates legal transactions and activities, including providing counsel and direction on legal and compliance matters, negotiating and drafting contracts, as well as, representing the Housing Authority in litigation. She has extensive experience in property and landlord-tenant matters, having assisted Charleston Prop Bono Legal Services and the Housing Court Pilot program in that area. Previously, Aris worked with Motley Rice in the Securities and Consumer Fraud Department, aiding in discovery review and litigation preparation and strategy. Aris is a 2012 graduate of Duke University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and minors in Spanish and Education. She attended Charleston School of Law, where she served as President of the Keith J. Williams Chapter of the Black Law Students Association; and graduated in 2016 as an inducted member of the school’s Forensic Club for her leadership and academic commitment. Outside of work, Aris serves as a member of Pinewood Preparatory School’s Board of Trustees, Junior Varsity Cheerleading Coach, and Attorney for the Junior League of Charleston, and is active in the national, state, and local bar. She currently resides in Summerville with her husband Julian, whom she met in law school, and their dog, Tucker.

Alex M. Serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Housing Authority, bringing a wealth of leadership experience that spans over 24 years of distinguished military service. Since joining the team in February 2022, Alex has leveraged his expertise in various leadership roles to enhance the organization’s operations and community impact.

Before transitioning to the Housing Authority, Alex was a Senior Project Manager at Georgia’s fourth-largest landscape company, where he excelled in mentoring and training teams across multiple areas. His ability to lead diverse groups, including translating all training documents, played a crucial role in supporting both residents and the Latin community, further demonstrating his commitment to inclusivity and effective communication.

With over 35 years of experience in facilities management, maintenance, and carpentry, Francis S. Has built a distinguished career in ensuring high-quality housing solutions. As the Director of Facilities and Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) at the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, he oversees property maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and operational efficiency to enhance residents’ living conditions.

Francis has a deep understanding of facility upkeep, renovation projects, and compliance regulations, ensuring properties are well-maintained and meet the highest standards. His leadership and hands-on experience in carpentry and maintenance have played a crucial role in modernizing housing units and improving overall community development.

Brad Walbeck is the Chief Human Resources Officer, bringing a wealth of experience from both public and private sectors. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, Brad earned his bachelor’s degrees in economics and business administration from Grove City College, PA, before making the move to the Lowcountry in 1995. He later pursued and earned a master’s degree in human resource management.

Certified as a Senior Certified Human Resource Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Brad’s career spans a diverse range of organizations. He has contributed his expertise to institutions such as the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston Water Systems, and the Town of Mt. Pleasant. His private sector experience includes working for Daimler-Chrysler, and prior to his current role, he served as HR Director for the Charleston-based law firm Clement Rivers.

Jeremy Erling is a financial executive with a strong background in public housing and community development. A native of Connecticut and a Clemson University graduate, he has built extensive experience in financial leadership, transitioning from finance roles in other industries to a focus on housing. Jeremy’s previous 12 years at the North Charleston Housing Authority included nine years as Finance Director and three years as Executive Director. During this time, he played a crucial role in improving financial operations, enhancing housing programs, and supporting organizational growth. As Chief Financial Officer for the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, Jeremy now oversees financial strategy, budgeting, and long-term fiscal planning. His work ensures the continued success of affordable housing initiatives, all while fostering community development and operational efficiency.
